FAQ's about the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)


What is it?                                                                                 

  • A provincially mandated test based on the expectations for literacy (reading and writing) across all subjects in The Ontario Curriculum up to the end of Grade 9

Who writes it?

  • Students in Grade 10 or those who are in their second year or more of high school who have not yet completed this test.  All other students not writing the test do not come to school no official classes.

When is it written?

  • The 3 hour long Literacy Test will be written on

Tuesday,  April 10th, 2018.

This is the ONLY day to write. There are no "rain dates".

Arrive to school by 8:15 am.

Why do we have to do this?

  • Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the  requirements students must meet to earn a Diploma.

How can I get Help?

  • Tidbits of Lit takes place on Tuesdays at lunch time in Room 201. All are welcome.
  • Catch Up Club will have special OSSLT preparation classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school in the Library. All are welcome.
